First Post

This has been fun? A new adventure just setting up this blog. I'm doing this in anticipation of our December trip to Egypt. We've been communicating to family and friends through email, and I thought this might provide a broader, more convenient format, and a nice addition to our photo albums.

I'll use the individual posts up to Egypt "take-off" as a recap of our former trips; highlights, things we learned, overall impressions, etc. Basically, narcissistic ramblings...

Tall One and I began traveling in earnest five years ago with our first overseas trip to Paris. Tall One is the planner, endlessly researching destinations, rates, political climates. I am the clueless, reckless one. Before that trip, marking our 25th wedding anniversary, Tall One had been to Mexico with our son. Ok, that time he was reckless. They actually ate something that was cooked on the street in an overturned oil drum. He said it good. I had been to Jamaica as a teenager; Toronto, San Francisco, and a cruise with stops in Cozumel, Grand Caymans, and Jamaica with my boss - a little curious, aren't you? Maybe in another post. Oh, you'll be back, I know....We vacationed as a family at Virginia Beach, Williamsburg and Disney World. And frequented Ocean City, NJ and MD.

When the kids were little, I had no desire to travel. Chalk that up to three kids in three years (I honestly don't remember family vacations. I wouldn't have known I was on them if someone hadn't taken pictures!), the normal motherly paranoia of catastrophe, or the pitiful financial situation. But, by the time they started graduating from college - we were ready.

Paris really is romantic. And beautiful. And the whole experience just served to reinforce our desire to see "everything"!. So more on Paris later. I'll sort through my memory and our memorabilia and see what's worth preserving on electronic paper!
